Give IGS Photo Contest Your Best Shot

Let your creativity run wild in the IGS Young Members Photo Contest – and win cash prizes and attendance to the 12th ICG in Rome.

The wonders of geosynthetics are all around us and we want to share the great projects, technologies, materials and constructions that benefit. Could your photos bring to life the positive impact geosynthetics have on communities, offer greater insight into the varied materials involved, or perhaps you’re working on a project that deserves global recognition? It’s likely you might already have the winning shot on your mobile phone. Then enter our competition and show us why you love working with geosynthetics.

Three winners – announced at the GeoAsia7 conference next month – will receive prize money equally split between a gift voucher and a donation to their chosen charity, as follows:

    • First prize: $300
    • Second prize $200
    • Third prize $150

Plus, the best photo submitted by an IGS Young Member will get an additional $150, while the best photo submitted by an IGS Student Member will win free entry to the 12th ICG in September 2023, or another regional conference of their choice, such as GeoAmericas 2024 in Toronto.

And that’s not all. A People’s Choice Award will be presented to the winner of a public vote on social media. Ten shortlisted images chosen by the judging panel will be shared on Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram. The one with the most ‘likes’ overall will receive $100.

Anyone can enter – whether they are a member of the IGS or not – but they must be aged 35 or under on October 31, 2022. Images must clearly demonstrate or represent geosynthetic material or technology in use, without product branding. Entries must also be original images taken by the entrant since 2018 and not previously submitted to any other IGS photo competition.

For full details and to submit, enter via this form by the closing date of September 30, 2022. For further questions, simply email

If you would like to join the IGS before entering, visit the IGS membership application page here.
