Thriving metropolis Ahmedabad is set to stage the 9th Asian Conference on Geosynthetics following IGS India’s successful bid to host.
Announced at the closing ceremony of Brisbane’s four-day GeoAsia8 conference in June, delegates will be invited to gather at the world-class Mahatma Mandir Convention & Exhibition Centre in the state of Gujarat from November 13-16, 2029.
Through its theme Geosynthetics towards smart infrastructure, organizers aim to showcase technological innovations, address global challenges, strengthen regional cooperation, bridge the industry-academia gap, and promote application-oriented research.
As well as exciting workshops, keynote lectures, project visits and networking opportunities, IGS India’s program will also explore the development of natural fiber geotextiles – materials synonymous with the region such as jute and coir – and their impact on sustainability. There will also be a session on celebrating women in geosynthetics, and a conference dinner championing the need for greater inclusion, accessibility and equality in the industry.
Delegates’ families can also be part of the fun with a special spouse/partner program ticket offering a packed agenda of activities including yoga, shopping, culinary and cultural experiences while their loved ones are at the event.
Bidding for GeoAsia9 took place in fall 2024 with criteria including maximizing the diversity of participants, ensuring the event represented the whole Asia region, a program incorporating the broader outcomes of geosynthetics such as sustainability, resilience and economic benefit, and a detailed budget.
