The Japanese Geotechnical Society has published “GEO-HAZARDS DURING EARTHQUAKES AND MITIGATION MEASURES – LESSONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE 2011 GREAT EAST JAPAN EARTHQUAKE”. This document is based on experiences with, and lessons from, the disasters that resulted from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, 11th March 2011. These documents show several fields where geosynthetics engineering can be applied for restoration, reconstruction and new construction. It is noted that the Immediate Past President of the IGS, Tatsuoka, F., worked as one of the core members for these documents.
