Earthquake and Tsunami Relief

The International Geosynthetics Society is a professional society expert in a specialist discipline called geosynthetics. Geosynthetics are a group of products used in civil construction of earthworks and other civil structures. A major advantage of geosynthetics in civil works is that geosynthetics facilitate low cost, easy to transport and rapid construction of temporary and permanent structures.

The members of the IGS have expertise that can directly benefit the solutions to the problems of rebuilding in the areas devastated by the Tsunami of Dec 2004. The IGS membership is global and there are significant IGS resources in Indonesia, Thailand, India, Malaysia, and Singapore as well as many other countries.

The Asian Activities Committee (AAC) of the IGS and the Council and Officers of the IGS propose to assist in Tsunami relief efforts in the immediate period and the long term by facilitating contact with and communication with IGS people resources both locally and world wide.

Those on the scene who can put expertise and skill to use in rebuilding facilities and infrastructure in the affected areas of surrounding the Indian Ocean are urged to contact the IGS for assistance. Please introduce us to other people and organizations in the affected area that we can assist. Please contact Peter E. Stevenson, IGS Secretary for more information.
