The mission of NAGS is to provide leadership in advancing the education and research of geosynthetics, in strong cooperation with IGS, via the following ways:

  • Organization of and participation in technical conferences, seminars and workshops.
  • Development and dissemination of tools for geosynthetics education.
  • Recognition of technical contributions and innovations regarding geosynthetics.
  • Stimulation of geosynthetics research and their applications through the NAGS Awards of Excellence Program.

Geosynthetics

Geotextile (GT)

A permeable geosynthetic comprised solely of textiles.
Discussion – Geotextile perform several functions in geotechnical engineering applications, including: separation; filtration; drainage; reinforcement; and protection. (ref. ASTM D4439)

Geogrid (GG)

A geosynthetic formed by a regular network of integrally connected elements with apertures greater than 6.35(mm) (1/4 in.) to allow interlocking with surrounding soil, rock, earth, and other surrounding materials to function primarily as reinforcement. (Ref. ASTM D 4439)

Geomembrane (GM)

An essentially impermeable geosynthetic composed of one or more synthetic sheets. (Ref. ASTM D 4439)

Geonet (GN)

A geosynthetic consisting of integrally connected parallel sets of ribs overlying similar sets at various angles for planar drainage of liquids or gases.

Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)

A manufactured hydraulic barrier consisting of clay bonded to a layer or layers of geosynthetic materials. (Ref. ASTM D 4439)

Geocomposite (GC)

A product composed of two or more materials, at least one of which is a geosynthetic. (Ref. ASTM D 4439)

Geo-Others

Geofoam (GF)

Block or planar rigid cellular foamed polymeric material used in geotechnical engineering applications. (Ref. ASTM D 4439)
